NOW TAKING BOOKINGS FOR AUTUMN 2011. DON'T DELAY, WINTER IS ON THE WAY!
A reduction is normally given if your house has two or more chimneys being swept. If in doubt I can visit your home for a more comprehensive, free, quote. Chimney inspections with a camera are also available, please enquire for further details and costs. I am able to issue safety certificates which are now a requirement for all landlords. Many customers are naturally concerned that sweeping will cause a mess. Rest assured your chimney will be fully covered with special dust sheets that fully contain any mess and dust prior to cleaning. Your carpets will also be protected with dust sheets. Customers are frequently pleasantly surprised how little soot ( virtually none) is release into the air following a clean. Rest assured we are covered by insurance should there be an unexpected ( very rare ) accident.
Why use someone who is registered with a professional body ( ICS ) ? When you use a registered chimney sweep you can be confident that they have undertaken a recognised training course backed up by guidance and checks from ICS. Only once this is complete will ICS put a sweeps name on their database. Anyone can check that I am registered by looking on the database.
A few customers have called because they are anxious about using their fire whilst they wait for a clean. You can test your open fire or wood-burner by lighting a small amount of newspaper in the grate. If the smoke does not exit via the chimney and blows back into your room then it is likely that your chimney is blocked. In these circumstances it should not be used. It might be the last thing on your mind come the spring but it pays to book in your clean early to avoid a last minute rush! You might want to consider having your chimney swept at the end of the burning season, provided it is not prone to birds nesting on the chimney stack! Failing that it can be swept in the early Autumn, ie. late August /September. Our busiest time is October/November and December.
It is recommended that you clean your chimney once a year. Compacted tar will need additional measures to remove, using a special tool. To avoid this problem have your chimney inspected and cleaned once a year, the same as you would with a gas appliance! A poorly maintained and cleaned chimney can be dangerous, a fire and carbon monoxide risk. Don't risk it! Early booking is recommended as Autumn is likely to be my busiest time.
